Take a look at the swatches that I sewed. The heavy weight leather piece is actually a bit more than 1/4 inch thick, or for you leather workers, that's 16 ounces of leather.
AND, I did this with the old needle that came with it too! But, let's get back to the swatches. See the one marked "F" and "B" and you'll notice that those are the front and back of a piece of leather material.
Now, look at the colors of the thread. One is pink and one is golden, and as you can see, the tension is darn near perfect! That's how precise this thing sews. The best part is that I have lubed up every moving part including the motor bearings, the hook and shuttle, and even the bobbin winder, which I tested on the bobbin I sewed with.Of course there some scratches and dings, as you would expect on a machine of this age, but as you can see from the pics, it still looks pretty darn good. It came out of a cabinet, and you can either use it as it sits, or put it back into a cabinet. But, the foot pedal is corded for a cabinet, so there isn't much reach. Needless to say, if you are working with heaver weight materials, like leather applique, canvas and quilting, you aren't going to find a better machine for the job than this one, and it is so light that it could even be considered portable.
I do suggest that before you do any major sewing that you change out the needle. I used it to prove that it would sew with a dull needle, but a sharper new needle is going to give you far better results. And I have included a few news ones in a pack. And if interested, I have a few other machines on this week, so please check them out. I'm sure there will be one for any of your sewing needs.
