This is a lockstitch cylinder arm sewing machine. Singer made this sewing machine with leather in mind. The 17-23 is different in that it has Two roller feet which affords the machine an additional row of feed dogs for double the feeding power. Turning work on this machine is very easy, you dont even need to raise the foot to do so. Roller feet are easy on the face of the leather which helps to keep marking down to a minimum.

I would say that this machine is best suited for light to medium leather projects with thread weights up to tex 105. The sewing that I do in my video is with tex 105 thread, top and bottom. Please be sure and watch my video in which I document the processes of bringing this beauty back to service. Full Disclosure there are a couple of parts missing on this unit but I find that the function of the machine is not impaired. I try to make sure a machine is 100% when I can and found that many of the parts on this machine are discontinued so future parts would need to come from a donor machine.

This cylinder arm is well suited for sewing curves and decorative stitching, it would also be good for canvas bags and other cylindrical objects. I set the machine up to run Tex 105 thread and as you can see, this core spun poly works great in this machine.

These machines were set up to accurately sew thin leather and the double roller feet allow for effortless turning of the work so this would be ideal for decorative stitching like say on cowboy boots where thin layers of leather are desired and decorative stitching makes the effect so desired. This is an antique machine and it is missing just a couple of items, the race is held on by 2 of 3 screws and then one of the roller feet clips is missing. The machine operates quite well in this current condition as you can see in the video. This Industrial Sewing Machine produces a lockstitch. It is a straight stitch drop feed machine with no reverse I have a YouTube channel that I show all kinds of sewing machines on.

I have never had a sewing machine quite like this so I jumped at the opportunity to get it and make a video about it. I have worked on a lot of machines and I love doing it.

Sometimes I will completely refurbish a machine, this was not one of those times. I did however do some good work to it as far as cleaning it a good deal, lubrication from top to bottom, several adjustments were made as were necessary to make a working industrial sewing machine video. I think this is a good antique machine and it would be a great piece for somebody that may want to do a full refurbish or just use it like it is. It sews a good lock stitch straight stitch.
