It started life as a 1912 Union Special 9900 Zig Zag, and then sometime in the 20's-30's Galkin Sewing got a hold of it and turned it into their "Waist Band Sewing Machine". See the custom metal gear cover they made for it! It's totally different than a standard Union Special 9900 as you can tell from the gears and arms.
When I got it, it had been sitting for probably 40-50 years. It sews an adjustable zig zag and has a built in roller. Its a chain stitch machine. The machine works and has been professionally timed. Even has a Galkin belt cover. When I contacted Galkin about it, they had no knowledge it even existed.
And maybe it's something but under the gears on the bed plate of the Union machine is stamped "1" So this might have been a prototype or the first one they made? Or it might just be a "1" stamped on it?
If you're wanting a vintage Union Special, that nobody else has or has even seen this is the one. It's in really good shape too for it's age.
