Double throw zig zag (308 stitch) is used to replace bar tacking, for reinforcing, and anywhere a zig zag stitch is needed. Commonly used in parachute construction and repair because it won't unravel, will stretch, and provides a clean way for heavy duty reinforcement. Parachute suspension lines are attached using this stitch- so you know it has got to be strong!

Also common for sail making and repairs, and sewing lingerie because it sews light fabrics really well. I keep at least one of these up and running if you want to come see it sew. Lightly used sewing small repairs on parachutes, occasionally used for heavy duty fabrics and will sew most anything nicely.
