Rare, vintage darning machine for repairing and reweaving denim. Single-owner machine that has never left the United States. Black enameled model which appears to have been manufactured in 1944. Tuned by a well-respected industrial machine shop that has extensive experience with 47w70, Consew 207, and Seiko CW darning machines.Looks and runs like it just came out of a time machine! Table base and pedal have a little rust, but is the original table setup with a good thick maple top veneer sandwiched between solid pine. Comes with rare original bullet nose cone and original Singer clutch motor.
Runs fantastically well and is ready to plug & play at your shop. Clutch plates make a little noise when slowing speeding up and slowing down, but run quietly otherwise, as is common with this model of old Singer motor. Comes with digital copy of Singer manual and a fresh bottle of oil.
With a combination of thin thread colours and following the grain line and slub pattern of wear marks, skilled users can blend the repair so it does not even look as if its been mended. Its an art form in its own right; you can even repair without patching your work from behind. When it comes to denim repair and especially darning, there is no other sewing machine more quintessential than the Singer 47W70. It can take the gnarliest crotch blowout and make it almost look like it didnt even happen.
In some ways the repair will be stronger than the original fabric, and if repaired correctly using the 47W70, it wont be able to happen again.
