Singer 35-K1 1940s -1950s Vintage Carpet Stitcher /. The "K" in the model name is for Kilbowie - that was Singer's Scottish factory. Stunning piece, would be a real head turner mounted on a wall as a display piece. Very rare piece of equipment. Steampunk, fashionable, almost looks like a weapon out of the fallout console game series.
For sewing two lengths of body carpet which were stretched between two fixed points vertically by a hand cranked winch and then stabilised by a series of vertical chain held clamps which kept the carpet more or less steady. The machine was then slung over the carpet (upright) , held steady with left hand and then cranked with the right hand which then drove the feeding and sewing mechanics. It produced a two thread CHAINSTITCH.
20 long x 6 at widest point. Please see photos for condition, handle turns, cracks and needle goes. Seems to work as well as designed.
